North Kent’s property scene is poised for further expansion as two major Medway developments have received approval despite worries from local councillors about traffic and access.
Acorn Wharf: Riverside Living Set to Take Shape
A major proposal for 132 new apartments at Acorn Wharf in Rochester has been approved, bringing fresh life to a long-vacant shipyard on the River Medway.
The scheme outlines three contemporary apartment blocks positioned just north of the ongoing Rochester Riverside regeneration. Alongside the mix of 62 one-bed and 66 two-bed homes, buyers can expect lifestyle-led features including a waterside café and yacht moorings, reinforcing the area’s continued transformation into a vibrant riverside destination.
Councillors raised several points around site access and the potential impact on traffic, and opinions were mixed on the architectural approach. There was criticism of its visual appeal, but there was also praise for its art-deco influences.
Even so, the application received strong overall support, passing with 13 votes in favour and just one against.
Berengrave Lane, Rainham: Family Housing in High Demand
A second application for 33 new homes off Berengrave Lane in Rainham was approved unanimously.
The development will deliver a well-balanced housing mix, including:
- 12 three-bed homes
- 9 four-bed homes
- 6 two-bedrooms and 1 three-bedroom designated for social rent
- 5 two-bed homes allocated for affordable housing
This mix of private and affordable homes reflects the growing demand for family-sized properties in the Rainham area and introduces welcome variety to the local market.
